Kimono Summary:
This black kimono is what is known as a kuro tomesode, which means a formal black kimono with sleeves that don't hang as low as those of a furisode kimono. This type of kimono is generally worn by married women, and is less flashy than the colorful kimono worn by unmarried women. This kuro tomesode is adorned with three kamon (crests), with the usual one at the base of the neck and two identical ones on each of the sleeves. The condition of this kimono is very good, with a couple of stains on the silk lining that are typical age spots of white silk. The more colorful, hand-painted lower part of this kimono is adorned with green bamboo, light purple snapdragons, and brownish orange leaves and trailing vines. Very attractive and earthy! The lining of this kimono is white on the top half and ivory on the lower half.
