Itomaki are traditional Japanese spools used for winding kimono silk. They are lovely ornamental pieces that look great as simple but eye-catching conversation pieces, or they can be converted for other uses. I’ve even used one as the base of a lamp! We currently have 5 turn-of-the-century (Meiji era) woodblock prints with kimono themes. Four of the five feature intricate kimono crest (kamon) designs.
